Microsoft has signed yet another Android patent deal, this time with China’s Compal Electronics. The current list of Microsoft’s patent agreements include Samsung, HTC, Wistron, Quanta, Acer and General Dynamics Itronix. Exclusive – The founding team of LiveChat, which delivers real-time software and web analytics solutions for e-commerce sales and support teams, has completed a management buy-out to regain control over the company, TechCrunch has learned. The founders were looking to get back a controlling equity stake in the company, and teamed up with PE firm Tar Heel Capital to acquire a 60% stake, effectively buying out investor Naspers, a massive South Africa-based media and investment group.
Microsoft just reported its first quarter 2012 earnings with revenues of $17.37 billion, an 7% increase from the same period of the prior year. Microsoft’s operating income was at $7.20 billion, its net income was $5.74 billion and its diluted earnings per share were at $0.68, a 10% increase from last year.

The startup has failed to find funding and is now laying off half its workforce. SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — EBay Inc. said Wednesday afternoon that earnings grew 14% in the third quarter, coming in line with Wall Street’s expectations as the company’s top line was helped by strong revenue growth at both the PayPal and Marketplace businesses.
However, the e-commerce pioneer saw its shares slip more than 3% in after-hours trading on Wednesday, as the midpoint of its earnings forecast for the current period was slightly below analysts’ estimates.
Making a unscheduled appearance at the annual Web 2.0 Summit, Brin, whose company has recently launched Facebook rival Google+, said: “I am not a very social person myself. I haven’t spent much time on social networks myself…including Facebook or Twitter. I just haven’t been very active on any of them. I try them as I feel it’s important for my job to understand them.”
